Project summary
Our project wants to stimulate high-quality, innovative ways of teaching and learning through new approach.
CLIL aims to develop an integrated educational approach that put together various subjects and language that engages students in learning by doing, and solving problems, which comprises acting, observing and reflecting on the data collected, while exposing them to the target language.
Through collaboration with our partners, we want to:
– deepen competences in English
– facilitate a preparation of CLIL lesson
– promote innovative teaching/learning methods with a great emphasis on language and multidisciplinary approach
– create more attractive ways of learning and thus increase students´ motivation to study
– promote teamwork at national/international level
– strengthen use of ICT and digital media for teaching/learning.
Objectives
The main goal of CLIL project is to increase the quality of education and motivate students to be active in learning process and to equip them with skill sets to help them to be successful in their future jobs, to become responsible citizens and attractive for international labour market.
The more specific objective is to suggest and recommend for implementation a model of integrating English, other subjects and ICT in teaching and project-based learning.

Staff training for teacher in CLIL in Education project
In March, the seminar for teachers took place at our school as a part of the European project CLIL in education, or in other words: how to introduce English into the teaching of other subjects.
During the four-day meeting, a team of teachers from seven partner schools in six countries (Czech Republic, Italy, Slovakia, Estonia, Turkey and 2sx Spain) collaborated to implement a series of presentations on learning apps for each subject and on methods for joint assessment of this teaching/learning model.
During the visit, group workshops were also held for the team members to create activities based on learning apps, and discussions took place where we shared experiences, procedures and the use of these tools for the methodology and student assessment.
CLIL in Education project coordinators meeting in Bratislava
The last week in May, a coordinators‘ meeting took place in Bratislava. It was attended by representatives of all seven partner schools.
During the three-day meeting, we checked the progress of the work on the project together, shared other tasks and deadlines, and set a schedule of work and meetings in the autumn. The Cartagena team has already presented a detailed design of the program and competition for the student, which will take place in October at their school.
Blended mobility in Cartagena
On 17-21 October 2022, an international meeting of partners in the „CLIL in Education“ project took place in Cartagena, Spain. The aim of the meeting was, among others, to strengthen knowledge of CLIL methods and to test their use in various educational activities.
The host Cartagena university and high school ISEN prepared a very interesting program for everyone. Three students from each partner country and their teachers participated in the mobility. Students worked in groups and in addition to completing various tasks, they also improved their communication skills in English.
Right at the beginning, the 4C system (Content, Communication, Cognition, Culture) was explained to the participants. All planned activities were created in the spirit of CLIL and modern teaching methods aimed at deepening communication skills in English while solving tasks from various fields (mathematics, informatics, chemistry, and history).
On the first day, there were short student presentations, where they introduced themselves and their school through a creative presentation. This way they had the opportunity to get to know partners from Slovakia, Turkey, Spain, Italy and Estonia a little more. As part of the program, there was also a tour of the school, which is divided into two main buildings and offers a very wide selection of study fields (among others, chemistry, law and security, and pedagogy).
One of the first CLIL activities was fun mathematical „coding“ in the form of several mathematical games and puzzles when the maths teacher demonstrated mathematics in an unusual way, where the learning of new math operations was mediated through a game.
In the following days, a very varied program awaited the students, where their task was to create an itinerary of important historical buildings of Cartagena, acquire basic survival skills in nature, provide first aid to a bleeding person, make their own cosmetic product, etc. The range of activities was really rich. Through the prepared program, the students broadened their cultural-historical outlook, deepened their ability to establish relationships and communicate in a foreign language, were familiar with the practical use of CLIL in teaching, and learned about the culture of other countries.
In their free time, the students explored the beautiful centre of Cartagena and its monuments, such as the historic ancient amphitheatre, the military museum and other very interesting places.
The mobility ended with a common traditional Spanish paella and a dance party, where the students said goodbye to their newly acquired friends and all participants of the project meeting evaluated the past week and the CLIL experience gained.
International meeting of teachers in Padua
Another meeting of partner countries involved in the international project „CLIL in Education“ took place on November 7.–11. The host country was the I.I.S. High School Pietro Scalcerle in Padua, Italy.
A total of 15 representatives from six partner countries from seven different schools took part in the meeting, which focused on the issue of teaching professional subjects in English. The partners shared their experiences with CLIL teaching and discussed the best way to draw up a so-called „lesson plan“.
In Italian schools, CLIL is one of the regularly and commonly used teaching methods. Participants had the opportunity to attend two chemistry and biology classes. The examples of „textbooks“ that students create themselves from the materials provided were very interesting.
In their free time, the participants viewed the most important monuments of Padua according to the presentation provided: the Scrovegni chapel, which is decorated with Giotto’s frescoes, the Prato Della Valle square, with its area of approximately 90,000 m2 is the largest square in Italy and one of the largest in Europe, the Basilica of St. Antonína, city palaces (Palazzo Della Ragione, Palazzo del Capitanio and Palazzo Comunale) and the University of Padua.
